The Art of Wooden Churches in the Pszczyna District

The exhibition assembles the extremely valuable works of sacred art from wooden churches, some of which still exist and and some of which unfortunately have not survived to our time. Among the items on show are Gothic triptychs depicting Sacra Conversazione from Ćwiklice and Brzeźce, paintings and sculptures from 15th to 19th centuries from churches in Wisła Mała, Goczałkowice and Krzyżowice, as well as beautiful works of art lent by the Archdiocesan Museum in Katowice.
The purpose of the exhibition is to show, especially to the people of the Pszczyna district, the rich store of these valuable and unique works of sacred art which exists to this day. Moreover, the exhibition is intended to draw people’s attention to the urgent need to protect these wooden churches and their contents which are in danger of destruction.
