Research Library of the Castle Museum in Pszczyna
The Research Library of the Castle Museum in Pszczyna is intended for Museum employees and is a place to conduct scientific research when studying museum pieces, cataloguing them and preparing exhibitions. Books are also made available to museum guides, academics and researchers interested in the Museum’s collections.
Currently, the collection of books exceeds 10,600 volumes (books and magazines) and 1,500 leaflets, including exhibition catalogues.
The book collection continues to expand, mainly thanks to the purchases made, exchanges with other museums and associations as well as donations. The library has both an alphabetic and a subject term catalogue based on the topic-related diagram of the Research Library of the Castle Museum in Pszczyna. The library also has an electronic catalogue database.
The library collection includes books and magazines dedicated to the history of art, museology, military history, and animal hunting and trapping. There is also a sizeable reference book collection which includes publications relating to the history of Pszczyna Castle, the history of the region, a large compilation of publications of the Castle Museum as well as dictionaries, catalogues of historical monuments, dictionaries and encyclopaedias.
Multimedia Library of the Castle Museum in Pszczyna
The publications of the Castle Museum are digitised and made available through the computer workstations in the Multimedia Library. There are 10 computer workstations in the form of touchscreen panels with headphones. The electronic collection includes: materials belonging to the Museum of Historic Interiors in Pszczyna (vol. I-X), guidebooks, exhibition catalogues, collection catalogues, illustrated books, materials from research sessions and conferences – some of these publications are also made available by the Silesian Digital Library.
The Multimedia Library also includes photographs showing castle interiors and lectures given as part of the Museum Studies programme. The Multimedia Library organises training related to the use of available publications, presentations of the collections of the National Digital Archives and the Digital Libraries Federation as well as workshops for organised groups, particularly for the youngest library users. The library also makes it possible to take a virtual tour of the Castle Museum in Pszczyna. The Multimedia Library is open to all Museum visitors.
